Live CLE Webinar: Facebook Libra: Federal and Global Regulatory Issues for the Planned Internet of Money

December 12, 2019 @ 11:30 am - 12:30 pm

Live CLE Webinar: December 12, 2019

Presenter: Albert Copeland of Christian & Small, Birmingham

In June 2020, Facebook announced a plan to launch Libra, a cryptocurrency on a decentralized blockchain, to deliver on the elusive promise of “the internet of money.” But is that promise still within reach? This webinar will provide a basic overview into cryptocurrencies and blockchain, and review Facebook’s ambitious plan to bank the nearly 1.7 billion adults who still remain outside of the financial system who have no access to a traditional bank. The issues are complex, as both U.S. and foreign regulatory bodies are grappling how to classify Facebook’s Libra project. Together, we will review these regulatory issues confronting Facebook and explore how the social media giant could deliver on its promise.
